In February 1984, Red Tempo would go down to River Rough in the Lightning at Eagle Farm by a long neck, but would bounce back to win the Futurity Stakes over 1400m. A 2nd to Sir Dapper in the Canterbury Stakes was soon followed by a 4th to the great grey, Emancipation in the George Ryder. 1984 would see no further success for the horse, however in January 1985 Red Tempo would win the WFA Irwin at Morphettville before running 3rd to Vite Cheval and River Rough in the Futurity before her final ever run in the 1985 Newmarket Handicap at Flemington.
