IN SECRET
In Secret has proved herself as a stunning sprinter who can foot it with the best
In Secret was bred by Longwood Thoroughbred Farm and Segenhoe Stud and consigned for sale at the 2021 Magic Millions sales. She was the only horse purchased at these sales by Godolphin for $900,000. Sired by I Am Invincible, In Secret's broodmare, Eloping, wasn't half bad, winning over $1 million dollars in her racing career, culminating with G3 victories in the Keith Mackay Handicap and Champagne Stakes. Occasional purchasers of yearlings over the years, the huge sum Godolphin paid for In Secret was the third highest sum the world thoroughbred powerhouse has parted with when dabbling in the domestic bloodstock market.
The high-priced Godolphin yearling got her career off to a flying start at her first outing in public when scoring an impressive victory in a 2YO Fillies Maiden Plate (1100m) at the Australian Turf Club programme staged at Hawkesbury. In Secret went into her debut outing off the back of two solid barrier trials and looked particularly well educated when squeezing through runners halfway down the straight before going on to score with a bit in reserve. Ridden by James McDonald, the valuable filly crossed the finishing line under her own steam, passing the post more than a length in advance of her eight rivals. In Secret had her 2nd race start at Scone on in May 2022 in the Woodlands Stakes. She won the race comfortably ridden by Hugh Bowman, who stated after the race, "She has got a bit of a class edge on this lot." Subsequently, following a second-place finish in the Gr.2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) where she was narrowly defeated by Zougotcha on a yielding track, the filly then participated in the Gr.2 Run To The Rose (1200m) where she emerged victorious by a margin of 1.5 lengths under the guidance of jockey Tommy Berry.
In Secret then ran second in the Golden Rose Stakes Stakes (1400m) with JMac aboard, beaten by the classy Jacquinot. In Secret then won the the prestigious Gr.1 $2,000,000 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington Racecourse when again ridden by James McDonald, beating the favoured Coolangatta and Jacquinot. In February 2023 the horse tasted victory again in the Gr.2 Light Fingers (1200m) at Randwick, beating home, Sunshine In Paris. In March, she continued her successful streak in the prestigious Gr.1 Newmarket (1200m) at Flemington. She demonstrated her dominance by defeating notable competitors, Lofty Strike and I Wish I Win.
In Secret returned in the spring and ran 2nd to Remarque in the $1 million Gr.3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) carrying 58kg. She was strong to the line and followed up with a 4th in the Gr.2, The Shorts (1100m) at Randwick. Building up towards The Everest, In Secret appeared on target and primed for the big prize. A cruel draw played a serious role and from the outside barrier she shifted behind runners in the early stages, then held up for clear air approaching the 300m until the 200m, finally finishing 4th behind the brilliant pair, Think About It and I Wish I Win. In November the mare attacked the Gr.1 VRC classic Championship Sprint (1200m), finishing 1.25L off the best sprinter in Australasia, Imperatriz. To date In Secret has pocketed more then $5 million for her owners with more to come.
